Surviving are her beloved husband of 68 years, James Russell Saltz Sr.; three daughters, Melissa Saltz Cheek of Hayesville, Cindi Saltz Simmons and husband, Si of Webster, North Carolina, and Amy Saltz Brodhage and husband, Mark of Arab, Alabama; a son, James Russell “Jim” Saltz Jr. of Hayesville; a brother, William J. “Bill” Rogers of Raleigh, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Jordan Leigh Cheek, SFC Thomas Lee Cheek II and wife, Heather, Jackson Brett Simmons and wife, Nicole, Craig Forest Brodhage, and Elizabeth Anne Brodhage; three great-grandchildren, Thomas Lee Cheek III, Taylor James Cheek, and Hailee Marie Cheek; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Truett Memorial First Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Foster officiating. The interment was in Rogers Family Cemetery. Pallbearers were Si Simmons, Mark Brodhage, SFC Thomas Cheek, Jackson Simmons, Craig Brodhage, Wayne Rogers, Jeff Ginn, and David Rogers.

The family received friends from 1-2:45 Saturday afternoon at Truett Memorial First Baptist Church prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Martha Anne “Scottie” Rogers Saltz to the Mabel Jones Rogers Padgett Memorial Prayer Garden at Truett Memorial First Baptist Church, PO Box 464, Hayesville, NC 28904.

My heartfelt love and comfort go to each member of the Saltz family. It has been years since Terri and I visited in each others’ homes, but when I was in yours, your mom always made me feel welcome.

Russell, Melissa, Cindi, Jim, Amy, and families,

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I loved Scottie tremendously and will always treasure my memories of the beautiful blue Scottie Cake she made for my bridal shower. Saying prayers for strength and comfort during this sad time. She was one of the most lovely of all of our extended family of Rogers and Cherrys. I know you will miss her, and I rejoice that we will see her again when we all get to heaven.

Love, Monica

I had the pleasure of teaching with Scottie many years ago. She was a mentor and special friend to a Young teacher just starting out. As long as we cherish our memories of her she will remain forever our mentor and friend.

I will be praying for your family during this time. Scottie was a very special person. She was a beloved teacher and an awesome cake maker, who took the time to mentor a high school senior on cake decorating:) My daughter still knows how to make a Scottie cake!
