Shirley Martin Simonds, 80, of Andrews passed away Monday, October 1, 2018 at her residence. A native of Beckley, West Virginia, Shirley lived in Baltimore, Maryland before moving to Andrews in 1976. Shirley and her husband, Bishop Jack Simonds dedicated their lives to the Church of God. They were responsible for the founding and development of the Andrews Church of God. Shirley was currently a member of Peachtree Church of God.

 

She was the daughter of the late Cecil Wade Martin and Emma Davis Martin Wright and the wife of the late Bishop Jack A. Simonds, who died May 15, 2010. She was also preceded in death by two great grandchildren, Jacob Laney and Marcus Jett; and a sister, Christine Smith.

 

Surviving are seven daughters, Evelyn Anthony and husband, Bob of Calhoun, Georgia, Patricia Pritt of Charlottesville, Virginia, Jackie Smith and husband, Jerry of Hickory, North Carolina, Linda Waldroup of Murphy, and Carolyn Anderson, Roxanne Cosner and husband, Ed, and Loretta Huskins and husband, David, all of Andrews; two sons, Jack Simonds and wife, Tammy of Magnolia, Kentucky and David Simonds of Bryson City, North Carolina; two sisters, Wanda Ranson and Carol Cutsal, both of West Virginia; two brothers, Wayne Wright and Jimmy Wright, both of West Virginia; 19 grandchildren, Viten and Jack Anthony, Tina Fann, Jerry and Joseph Moneymaker, Dyan Hoke, Amanda Thomasson, David and Andrew Jett, Shirley Rogers, Crystal McCabe, Wade Hamby, Andrew and Drew Simonds, Cynthia Hollif, Marty and Michael Huskins, Pamela Greer, and Jennifer Nelson; 32 great grandchildren, and 22 great great grandchildren. Shirley is also survived by 76 foster children including Elizabeth Sutherland and Tony Goodson.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2018 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews with the Revs. Curtis Ledford and Kevin Crooks officiating. The interment was in Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Huskins, Jack Anthony, Wade Hamby, Jerry Moneymaker, Viten Anthony, and Drew Simonds. Kaleb Laney served as honorary pallbearer.

 

The family received friends from 5-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of dear Shirley. I was out of town on Friday and missed seeing you all at the funeral. My heart goes out to you in your loss. God be with all of you is my prayer.

We are so sorry for your loss. Please find comfort in Jesus words at John 5:28,29 " Do not be amazed... there is going to be a resurrection... " This promise of a resurrection is also stated by the apostle Paul at Acts 24:15. This promise means that we can see our loved ones again. My heart is broken!! You were always a great Aunt!! Mom always said I was more like you then anybody!! There will be no more suffering now! You can go be with Uncle Jack and Mom..(your Sister Christine)!! I will miss hearing your sweet voice on the telephone!! Sorry I can't make it there but my thought's and prayers are with all of the family which is my family also!! Until we meet again..I love you!! Gone but never forgotten!! My heart goes out to you all. I remember when Uncle Jack and Aunt Shirley came to Virginia to perform my marriage. Aunt Shirley was nice enough to tell me lots about my family. I enjoyed talking with her during these times. God has received 2 powerful people who had blessed my life. Prayers and healing to the whole family. Debi

Even though my childhood wasn't a good one Mrs Shirley was one of the best parts of my life her and brother Jack was the pastor of my church I grew up in was such amazing people who loved God with all there heart I can still hear sister Shirley singing what a beautiful voice she had they both was very good people and are going to be missed very much my love and prayers goes out to the entire family!!!! Gone but never forgotten!!!!

My sympathies go out to all of Aunt Shirley’s family! She was my favorite Aunt and she will really be missed! I had no idea of this news until today.
