James “Jim” Conrad, 81, of Hayesville passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018 in a Hall County, Georgia hospital. Jim served in the United States Navy for 25 years before retiring as a Master Chief. Jim worked in communications throughout his military career. Jim traveled the world while in the United States Navy. After retirement, Jim managed the family farm in Tusquittee, which he enjoyed very much. Jim volunteered with the Royal Rangers who were affiliated with his church in Raleigh, North Carolina. Jim loved the water, swimming, scuba diving, and camping. Jim was a devout Christian and was involved with several churches during his lifetime.
He was the son of the late Lindsay and Mabel Conrad. He was also preceded in death by a son, Alan Conrad; and a brother, Larry Conrad.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Stilwell Conrad; a daughter, Lisa Waters and husband, Jimmy of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two sons, Tony Conrad of Virginia Beach, Virginia and James A. Conrad II of Valdese, North Carolina; a step-daughter, Rebecca Ledford of Asheville, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Britt, Shawna, Josh, and Elijah; beloved mother-in-law, Mattie Stilwell of Hayesville; brother-in-law, Stanley Stilwell and wife, Sharon of Hayesville; and sister-in-law, Patricia Schrock and husband, Gary of Oakwood, Georgia.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 9, 2018 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Harry Martin and Rev. Charlie Shelton officiating. The interment was in Union Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Hayesville VFW Post 6812, Hayesville American Legion Post 532, and Murphy American Legion Post 96. Pallbearers were Robert, William, and Ricky Stilwell, Michael Harper, Fred Nienaber, and Gary Kendall.
The family received friends from 1-2:45 Sunday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services.

I am his cousin. His Mother, Mabel and my grandmother,Bla nche were sisters. I am sorry for your loss but know James is at peace. I pray for the families comfort. I am so happy James and I were able to connect at Christmas thru our cards. Wishing blessings to all.
