Virginia E. Erickson, 93, of Hayesville passed away Monday, April 16, 2018 in a Murphy hospital. She was a native of Concordia, Kansas and lived most of her life in Stromsburg, Nebraska before moving to Fort Pierce, Florida and then to Hayesville, North Carolina in 1990. Virginia was a retired first grade teacher having worked for 20 years. She was a member of the Marble Springs Baptist Church.

 

She was the daughter of the late Rev. Walfred Gustaf and Ruth Elizabeth Carlson Holmberg and the wife of the late Alfred Lloyd Erickson, who died December 27, 1998. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sherill Ruth Conrad, who died November 10, 2000.

 

Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Garrett of Hayesville; three sons, Dr. Charles Arthur Erickson of Aberdeen, Idaho, Curtis Lloyd Erickson of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, and Jay Lloyd Erickson and wife, Adrienne of Andrews, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Justin Garrett and wife, Robin, Travis Garrett and wife, Shawna, and Matthew and Caleb Erickson; and five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Nickolas Dixson, Kaylie and Mattie Garrett, and Emmalee Erickson.

 

A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 in the Marble Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. John Bailey and Jimmy Tanner officiating.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Virginia E. Erickson to the Marble Springs Baptist Church, PO Box 264, Marble, NC 28905.

I loved this woman. She was so good to me. If the world had a lot more women like her the world would be a great place. She inspired me, she challenged me and loved me with no question. She will be so missed. See you in heaven my dear beloved Virginia.

Curtis: I'm so grateful that your mom made it to the convention and got to see how much you mean to us. It's wonderful that she got to spend time with her great-granddaug hter. It's a blessing that she had such a long life that ended without prolonged suffering. My heart goes out to you. We are here for you Curtis.
