Gerald D. Dockery, 56, of Murphy passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Ohio, but lived in Murphy most of his life. Gerald worked at the Cherokee County Tax office for many years and later worked as a LPN at Union General Hospital in Blairsville, Georgia. He also worked promoting Dragon Con Wrestling. Gerald was a former Junior Olympic archer and he played softball with the local softball leagues. He enjoyed building model tanks. He was a former Kiwanis member. Gerald was of the Baptist faith.
He was the son of the late Herman L. and Mary Neil Dalrymple Dockery.
Surviving are his wife of 19 years, Kim Dockery; a daughter, Maribeth Dockery of the home; a son, Drew A. Dockery of the home; two cousins, Tammy Miller and Bull Dockery both of South Carolina; sister-in-law, Connie Knight; brother-in-law, Chris Knight; a niece, Brinna Knight; and close friends, A.J. Schnuphase and Steven Vaughn.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 18, 2015 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Eddis Dockery officiating. The interment was in Hanging Dog Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers were Eric Schnuphase, Steven Vaughn, Scott Gunnels, Jeremy Boyd, Azreal Greenway and Anthony Mills. Honorary pallbearers were Rex Davis, Max Odell, and J.B. Reeves.
The family received friends from 6-8 Friday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
