Frieda Grace McMahan Totherow, 87, of Peachtree departed this earth and went home to meet her Savior on Sunday, February 23, 2014. Frieda, the daughter of the late Barnard and Birdie McMahan, was born on October 22, 1926 in Swain County, North Carolina, but she lived most of her life in Cherokee County, North Carolina. She worked several places in her lifetime. Some of them were Duffy’s, Peachtree Products, and Clifton Precision. She was also a homemaker. Her hobbies were quilting, sewing, and reading. She was a member of Little Brasstown Baptist Church. Frieda loved the Lord and her family.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Floyd Totherow, who died September 25, 1996; and two brothers, Ray McMahan and wife, Frances, and J.L. McMahan and wife, Marcella.
She leaves behind to cherish many happy memories, two daughters, Linda Aycock and husband, Carl of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and Denise Totherow of Peachtree and fiancé, Don Cross of Nantahala; one son, William Roy (Butch) Totherow of Brasstown and fiancé, Teresa Hood of Albertville, Alabama; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and three special aunts, Lou Campbell and Lillian Cross both of Andrews, and Nell Day of Robbinsville.
The visitation was held from 5-7:45 Tuesday evening, February 25 at the Ivie Funeral Home in Murphy. Funeral services followed at 8:00 PM with the Revs. Calvin Murphy and Aud Brown officiating. Burial was at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Little Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery. Grandsons and great grandsons were the pallbearers: Dustin Totherow, Brandon Totherow, Dusty Totherow, Jesse Aycock, Justin Bolton, and Derek Wilson. Honorary pallbearers: Fred Carson, George Heilner, Danny Hogsed, Mitch Myers, Mitchell Arrowood, and Dewayne Plemmons.
