Mary Ann Moore, 82, of Hayesville died Monday, December 28, 2009 in a Murphy medical center. She was a native of Madison County, but grew up in Swain County and had lived in Clay County for the past 50 years. Ann had worked as a deputy and jailer and also as the Clay County tax collector for many years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Hayesville Chapter #11 and was a member of the Truett Memorial First Baptist Church.

She was the daughter of the late Arthur C. and Lucy Mae McCurry.

Surviving are her husband, Hartsell Moore; a daughter, Julia Sherrill of Hayesville; two sons, Jack Daniel Sherrill of Alpharetta, GA and David Arthur Sherrill of Sugar Hill, GA; and three grandchildren, Jordan Leighann, Christopher, and Jacquelynn Sherrill.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Thursday, Dec. 31 in the Truett Memorial First Baptist Church with Pastor Johnny Foster and Dr. Chester Jones officiating. Interment was in the Meadow Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Chris Casto, Larry Sellers, Donnie Martin, Dwight McClure, and Jimmy and Jamie Moore.

The family received friends from 12:30-1:45 Thursday afternoon at the Truett Memorial First Baptist Church prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in loving memory of Mary Ann Moore to the Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215-3220.
