Myrtle Garrett, 95, of Hayesville died Friday, June 8, 2012 in Clay County Care Center. She was a native of Cherokee County, but had lived in Clay County for the past 84 years. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She was the daughter of the late James Dillard and Beulah Mae Nelms Garrett. She was also preceded in death by eight sisters and a brother.

Surviving is her daughter, JoAnn Lands and husband, Lloyd of Hayesville; a sister, Frances Hooper of Gastonia; a granddaughter, Tammy West and husband, Dave of Hayesville; two nieces, Janice Ramsey and Patricia Maney both of Hayesville; and several other nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 16, 2012 in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Revs. Jimmy Rogers and Bill Dyer officiating.

The family received friends from 12-1:45 Saturday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Myrtle Garrett to the Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 31 College Place, Suite D320, Asheville, NC 28801-2644 or to the Clay County Food Pantry, PO Box 853, Hayesville, NC 28904.

Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville in charge of all arrangements.

So sorry for you loss. Myrt has had a long struggle and you took such good care of her. God bless.
