Virginia Whiting, 96, of Hayesville died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 in Erlanger Medical Center.  She was a native of Cook County, IL, but had lived in Clay County since 1981.  She was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy.  She worked as a French teacher for many years.  Virginia was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Hayesville.

She was the wife of the late James Greeley Whiting, who died November 29, 1999.

Surviving are two sons, Mark H. von Lehmden of New York, NY and Peter N. von Lehmden of Hayesville.

A memorial service was held at 4:00 PM Tuesday, Sept. 28 in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd with Rev. John Rice officiating.  Interment was in the church’s memorial garden.
