Maybell Hollifield, 80, of Hayesville died Sunday, May 29, 2005 at her residence. A native of Buncombe County, but she had lived most of her life in Clay County. She was the daughter of the late Silas Ashburn and Mattie Thompson Stevens. She was a retired employee with the Chatuge Regional Nursing Home and was a homemaker. Maybell was a founding member of the Clay County Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary, and a life member of the VFW Post #7807 Hiawassee Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church in Hayesville.

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Philip W. Hollifield; a daughter, Pat Devine and husband, Tom of Hayesville; two sons, James Hollifield and wife, Evelyn of Dawsonville, GA, and Pastor Dan Hollifield and wife, Tricia of Hayesville; six grandchildren, Shelly and Sabrina Hollifield, Elaine Johnson, Amy Neighbors, Christy Kimbral, and Debra Sheridan; eight great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren; and a special friend and neighbor, Shirlene Waldroup.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 31 in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with her nephew, Rev. Charles Magnet officiating. Interment was in the Old Ledford's Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Farley Holden, Leon Parker, Ervin Davenport, Larry Chambers, Richard Burch, and Steven Lyvers.

The family received friends from 6:00-9:00 Monday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in memory of Maybell Hollifield, Pilgrim Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1187, Hayesville, NC 28904.
