Harry Starbird Raleigh, 90, of Hayesville died Monday, September 12, 2005 at his residence. A native of Cape Elizabeth, ME, he had been living in Clay County for the past five years. He was the son of the late Alonzo and Emma Starbird Raleigh. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Coast Guard in the Pacific Theatre. He also served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired after 31 years as a commander. He later worked as a retail mall manager in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Janet Perrault Raleigh; two daughters, Elizabeth Yuknus and husband, Frank J. of Parkland, FL and Michelle Hayes and husband, Samuel of Greensboro, NC; a son, Harry Starbird Raleigh Jr. and wife, Patricia of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL; a sister, Gloria Layman of York, ME; and six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 16 in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father George Kloster officiating.
