Marie M. Hogsed, 74, of Murphy died Friday, June 4, 2004 in a Murphy hospital. Marie was a native of Cherokee County, where she had lived most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Jewell and Lillie Mae Parnell Self and the wife of the late John Everett Hogsed, who died Jan. 28, 1995. She was a member of the Bear Paw Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Palmer.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Alice Riley of Clayton, GA, Louise Watkins of Young Harris, GA, and Johnnie Loudermilk of Copperhill, TN; a son, James Rose of Fairmont, GA; five sisters, Edgal Chilson of Warne, Rethal Hogsed and Geneva Floyd both of Murphy, Joy Domeny of Savannah, GA, and Juanita Childers of Clover, SC; two half-sisters, Fostine Richardson and Faye Ellen Hall both of Gastonia, NC; a step-sister, Mary Nell Ricketson of Charlotte, NC; a half-brother, J.C. Self of Gastonia; and eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 4:00 PM Sunday, June 6 in the Bear Paw Baptist Church with the Revs. Doug Howard and Lee Chastain officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Maynard, Junior, and Charles Hogsed, Chris Palmer, Jay Yeary, and Don Bradshaw. Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Rosendale, Jason Loudermilk, and Garland Hogsed.

The family received friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
