Mary Myrtle Trantham, 78, of Andrews died Saturday, May 29, 2004 in a Murphy hospital. A native of Jackson Co., but she had been living in Cherokee Co., for the past 54 years. She was the daughter of the late Gus and Lennie Whitener Ellis and the wife of the late Walter Trantham who died in 1988. She had worked for many years as a nurse’s aide at Providence Hospital. Mary was a member of the Andrews Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading her Bible and working religious puzzles. She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Trantham who died May 19, 1968 in the Vietnam War.
Surviving are three sons, Clayton Trantham of Andrews, Charles Trantham of Murphy, and DeWayne Trantham of Marble; two sisters, Celia Jane Davis, and Willa Mae Gibby, both of Andrews; and nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 7:00 Monday evening, May 31 in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with Rev. Mark Sparks officiating. Burial was at 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 1 in the Sunset Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris and Jonathan Trantham, Keith Williams, Eddie Davis, Gene Cheeks, and Junior Radford. Aaron and Joshua Trantham served as honorary pallbearers.
The family received friends from 5:00-6:45 Monday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.
