Garry Uranus Deyton, 63, of Topton passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 in Erlanger Medical Center. He was a native of Cherokee County where he had lived most of his life. He had served in the United States Air Force. Garry had worked for Duke Power as a nuclear engineer. He had worked as a cook locally at Elsie’s Steak and Seafood. Garry loved horseback riding and taking part in the Wagon Train. He was a Christian of the Baptist faith.

 

He was the son of Mary Louise Edwards of Topton, and the late Uranus Deyton. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jeremy Deyton, and an infant sister, Susie Diane Deyton.

 

Surviving in addition to his mother, are a son, Jordan Deyton of South Carolina; three sisters, Sherry Maxwell and husband, Russell of Hendersonville, NC, Sheila Bettis and husband, Bob of Marble, NC and Gina Jones of Andrews, NC; a brother, Larry Deyton of Topton, NC; seven nieces and nephews; and three great nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 am Thursday, April 12, 2018 in the chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews with Rev. Tommy Jones officiating. Interment was in the Red Marble Baptist Cemetery with military rites provided by the American Legion Post 96, Murphy DAV Chapter 73, and the Hayesville American Legion Post 532, Hayesville VFW Post 6812 (Allison Bristol). Pallbearers were Jackie, Michael, and Kenneth Deyton, Byron Minto, Russell Maxwell, and Bob Bettis. Tony and Dennis Deyton served as honorary pallbearers.

 

The family received friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening, April 11 at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews.
