Odette Platz, 86, of Hayesville passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at her residence. She was a native of Rennes Bretagne, France. She grew up in an orphanage during the war. She met her first husband, William Hope, in the late 50s at Dreux Air Force Base. Mrs. Platz became an American Citizen in 1977. She was a proud wife, mother, and grandmother. Odette was an amazing seamstress and cooking was her passion. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir, served as a member of the Legion of Mary, and was a dedicated volunteer. Odette enjoyed traveling and had visited much of the world.

 

She was the daughter of the late Emile and Bernadette Tirel Dubois. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Wayne Hope, who died August 1, 1983; a daughter, Martine; infant twins, Patrick and Patricia; a sister; and two brothers.

 

Surviving are her husband, Howard Platz; two daughters, Bernadette Pichon of France and Sabine Hope of Nashua, New Hampshire; a son, Eric Hope of New York City; two step-daughters, Victoria Lieding and Samantha Davies, both of La Verne, California; two sisters; a brother; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

 

A funeral mass was held at 12:00 PM Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Alex Ayala officiating. The inurnment was held at the Memorial Garden at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Saint Vincent DePaul Society in care of Odette Platz, PO Box 546, Murphy, NC 28906.
